Italian Wine Varieties
Italian IGT wines (Indicazione geografica tipica) is the second of four classifications of wine recognized by the government of Italy. IGT wines are labeled with the locality of their creation, but do not meet the requirements of the stricter DOC or DOCG designations, which are generally intended to protect traditional wine formulations such as Chianti or Barolo. Often the IGT label is used for unique wines, such as Super Tuscans, to allow the vineyards to "experiment" with new blends or grape varietals that go beyond the local traditions.
Sicily and Sardinia are Italy's pride and joy and the world's most envied lands when it comes to finding great wines. This selection is a treasure chest containing the natural power of white wines coming from somewhere between the sky and the sea.
